The Faces of Rural Womanhood

They are young, strong and radiant; sometimes fearful, worried and complexed; but they represent 70% of agricultural production in Africa. Women in peri-urban and rural areas can achieve great things when they have the opportunity. Only, they lack a space for public speech, self-realization and the conduct of community projects. No doubt they remain beautiful and desired.

The Fascinating Womanhood creates this space for dialogue. It is also a plea in favor of these women reduced to motherhood and hard work. What does this imply ?

Launched in the 1960s in the United States, the “Fascinating Womanhood” movement has enabled many women to emancipate themselves and build happy homes. However, there are many in our cities and countryside, these women who are totally dependent on their husbands, when they are not beaten, marginalized, widowed or lying in a polygamous home. Forced marriages, failed households, daily stress and various distresses are all pains in which some women are immersed. Trapped in deep sadness, they are left to their own devices and, weary, lose their self-esteem and confidence.
